Black Marble Benefits

Flexible & Expensive-Looking

Black marble is such a beautiful natural material that has been adored for centuries, and it’s a fantastic way to add a touch of luxury to your home while also enjoying a hard wearing and long-lasting surface.

Always in style and utterly timeless, there is a wide variety of black marble worktops that will work with an array of kitchen styles.

Whether classic and elegant or modern and bold, black marble worktops offer so many benefits for your home. It can be paired with dark cabinetry for a moody ambiance, contrasted with lighter hues to show off your marble surfaces, or added to a colourful kitchen to tie everything together.

It’s an easy way to add a centrepiece to your kitchen design that will remain stylish for years to come, with easy maintenance and a fantastic choice of shades and patterns to choose from.

Kitchen worktops need to be durable and withstand wear and tear, and marble can be a great solution to striking that balance between longevity and luxury.

Why Choose Black Marble Worktops?

This natural material has long been a popular choice for kitchens because it offers durability and beauty, as well as uniqueness for your kitchen. No two pieces are ever the same, so you can be confident that the worktops in your kitchen are exclusive to your home.

Black marble worktops can increase the value of your property, adding a luxurious touch to elevate the overall look of your kitchen.

The unique look of each slab means that you can choose a marble that is unique to your home, whether that’s a deep black stone or a shimmery slab that has flecks of white and grey.

Since marble is softer than other natural materials, like a granite worktop, it’s easier to work with, so you can create more elaborate designs and cut outs for features in your kitchen, knowing it will be possible to make them a reality.

Marble is also naturally cold and doesn’t conduct heat, so it’s perfect for baking projects and cooking to keep your ingredients cool. It can be used to create stylish up stands and around the sink, as well as for elegant countertops.

Marble Versus Granite

A granite worktop offers many benefits – it’s durable and hardwearing, and once sealed, it’s non-porous so it can withstand stains and spills.

Polishes and sealants can increase the resistance of stains and spills considerably, for both marble and granite. Marble is a material synonymous with luxury and elegance, and when it’s incorporated into a kitchen or any other room, it creates a beautiful feature.

Patterns in marble range from white and brown veining to flecks and bold patterns, all naturally formed. A granite worktop adds depth to a room with its flecks and intricate patterns, though for veining and striations, marble is a great choice for stunning work surfaces.

Different Finishes

There are two finishes to choose from for your kitchen worktop: polished and honed.

A polished surface has a glossy exterior and won’t stain as quickly, but it can be scratched.

These are shinier and brighter, reflecting the light well, so they’re a great surface for smaller kitchens if you want to maximise the light and give the illusion of a bigger room.

Honed surfaces have a smoother, matte finish and won’t show scratches and marks as easily, but they can be more susceptible to staining as the pores of the marble will be open. This finish is a great way to add texture to your kitchen design in a subtle way.

In order to prevent staining, marble worktops should be sealed around once per year. This ensures that kitchen worktops made from marble will remain durable and retain their appearance.

Maintaining Marble

Marble is easy to wipe clean simply with warm water and mild soap, wiping down with a soft cloth daily to prevent any damage to the surface, and for tougher stains, use a dedicated marble cleaner. Black marble will hide stains better than a lighter coloured marble, but it’s still important to use the right cleaners to avoid any damage.

It’s essential that you seal marble slabs to prevent stains over time and to keep the surface hygienic, as the pores of this natural stone can harbour bacteria. The worktop should then be resealed once a year to keep it in good condition and protect the surface. When well cared for, marble is a durable material that will stand the test of time.

Marble is naturally softer than granite, so it is prone to scratching, but over time, this means that it will develop its own patina and age beautifully. Again, as a darker colour, black marble will hide imperfections more successfully than a lighter colour, so it’s a great option to retain a newer appearance.

Because marble is a softer stone, you need to take precautions to prevent etching. Sealing will help, but it’s also worth having marble cutting boards made at the same time as your worktops being cut so they match but will protect your worktop from anything that could scratch or dent it.

It’s also important to remember not to cut citrus ingredients directly onto your worktop, as the acid can etch the surface.

Make sure you wipe clean any spills straight away with a damp cloth to ensure there are no acids on the worktop, and seal the marble at least once per year.

The Cost Of Marble

Marble is a natural stone that adds opulence and luxury to any space, but it’s also more affordable than you might realise. We offer a wide range of options to choose from to help you make cost savings while also choosing a worktop that suits your kitchen décor.

It’s an exciting process to choose the right marble for your property, and once you know how to maintain it well, it can be a wonderful investment that you’ll enjoy for many years.

Spending a little more upfront can mean huge savings in the long term, as you won’t need to replace your worktop as often as you might have to with laminate worktops or other less durable materials.

A Versatile Material

Black marble isn’t just beneficial for kitchens but also can be used elsewhere in your home, such as in a bathroom or utility room, thanks to the excellent finish and beautiful natural patterns to the stone.

We offer a great selection of black marble worktops in a host of different styles, colours and patterns, at the very best prices, so you can choose a beautiful kitchen worktop that suits your home and your budget.
